When students are faced with reading multisyllabic words, it is extremely helpful that they are familiar with the different syllable types or patterns. Instead of guessing, they will be able to attack long words and read them accurately. Students can use Post-it notes to break the word into syllables. Ensure students understand that each syllable must have only one vowel sound.
