Participants will explore strategies for planning instruction that supports diverse learners, including English Learners and students with disabilities, using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. The session will also cover selecting accommodations that allow students to demonstrate proficiency without reducing rigor. Attendees will leave with practical tools to ensure all students can access and achieve academic success.

This session is designed to empower teachers to enhance and improve student learning through the intentional and frequent use of targeted assessment of learning progressions. Teachers will explore a variety of formative assessment types for social studies, evaluating their effectiveness in gathering actionable student data. Teachers will design and refine targeted assessments tailored to their instructional goals for the first unit of study.

Social Studies - Group 1: Think Alongs: Explicit Instruction to Maximize Engagement and Bolster Literacy FULL

Explicit instruction is intentional and centered around purposeful practice opportunities to promote successful engagement. In this session teachers will develop routines and models for explicit instruction that are responsive to student needs. We will chunk complex concepts and skills into smaller segments, model, apply gradual release techniques, and provide feedback through purposeful practice opportunities for students. Participants will explore how to sequence learning progressions in a way that builds student understanding over the course of a unit.
